The key tool for urban revitalization: Downtown Birmingham’s BID

By the time REV took on BID management in 2018, downtown had a new set of needs from its BID. Downtown Birmingham in the ‘90s had a population mainly of 9 to 5 employees. But the downtown of 2018 had a whole new population of residents and visitors throughout the day and night. We had new opportunities to create positive experiences, inviting them into more downtown businesses and public spaces, and to keep them coming back for more.

4 reasons you should move downtown according to the Moore Sisters!

Meet Lauren and Marina Moore! These sisters have lived at The Watts residents for the past two years. Learn why the Moores choose to live downtown rather than stay in the suburbs.

More than just looks, the role 20th street plants play during winter

With winter approaching, most plants on 20th are entering dormancy. These plants provide more than just a pretty landscape they also support native wildlife. The plants chosen for the Birmingham Green refresh were strategically placed to offer low-maintenance options and add a sense of place. Plants play a much larger role than just looking attractive.

Taking a look back at the (20th) Street Party!

Okay – you probably know by now that we recently wrapped up construction on 20th Street (and if you didn’t, surprise – now you know!). We held a street party to wrap it all up and it was a huge success, if we do say so ourselves. There’s nothing better than seeing hundreds of people come together to celebrate the revitalization of their beloved city. How about we continue the celebrations and take a look back at the (20th) Street Party that took place last week? And be sure to stop by and check out all the fun new additions to Birmingham’s main street next time you head down there!

The 20th Street Refresh is coming to an end – but there’s still more to come!

This Friday, May 20th, we will be having a (20th) Street Party (which you can read more about here) to celebrate the end of our Birmingham Green Refresh! While this certainly calls for a celebration, the party doesn’t stop there. We will still be adding some finishing touches to the street after the (20th) Street Party. These additional touches will help make Birmingham’s main street more vibrant, interactive, and efficient! Additions will include smart trash cans, free libraries, street performers, and more!

Celebrating the Birmingham Green Refresh with a (20th) Street Party!

We are approaching the finish line for the 20th Street Refresh, which calls for a celebration – and you’re invited! The City Center Business Improvement District (BID), funded by downtown property owners, is partnering with the City of Birmingham and REV Birmingham to celebrate a refreshed Birmingham Green. Come join the party on May 20th from 4 to 8 p.m (with a special celebration happening at 6 p.m.)!

20th Street construction has been underway for some time now and we are so excited to be entering the final phase! We are beginning the lane striping and flex lane painting this week (which is VERY exciting) so let’s break down how we got here and what to expect in the coming weeks.

How does the 20th Street Refresh play into our Value of Downtown Report?

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been talking a lot about our Value of Downtown Report. We’ve also been talking a lot about the construction we’re doing on 20th Street. But how exactly do both of these projects go hand in hand?

20th Street is getting a makeover! Here’s what to expect

We hope you’ve noticed that big things are happening on 20th Street North! For the first time in nearly 50 years, Birmingham’s main street is getting a face-lift. Here’s a rundown on what to expect from this project. The “hardscape” work will be done in four phases. Now that the first phase is complete on the northbound lane of 20th Street from 3rd Avenue North to Linn Park let’s talk about what gets done in each phase.
