Why your pup wants you to move downtown

August 22, 2023 · Family Friendly, Live, Visit

Dear Mom,

Woof woof! I hope you’re enjoying your vacation — because I’ve been having the time of my life visiting my sister in downtown Birmingham, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. So I decided to put paw to paper in hopes of convincing you to make a big (and tail-waggingly wonderful) decision: Let’s move downtown.

I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a great idea. According to WalletHub, Birmingham is one of the most pet-friendly cities in the country! They looked at 23 different factors — like vet costs, walkability and how many animal shelters are nearby — and Birmingham scored high. That means lots of love (and treats!) for pups like me.

Now let me tell you about some of my favorite spots:

We visited this super cool park under a bridge called CityWalk BHAM. It’s like a dream! So many humans to greet, smells to sniff and dogs to befriend. The best part? The Barkery. It’s a special off-leash dog park with different play zones, a shallow splash pool and (wait for it) … free treats while you register and show my vaccine records! That’s where I met Kota — my new best bud. We ran, wrestled and talked about how lucky we are to have humans who bring us to places like this.

Then there’s Railroad Park — oh, Mom, it’s beautiful. Green grass, water features, open fields to roll in … it’s like someone designed a doggy daydream. I saw kids playing, families laughing and a whole pack of pups soaking up the sunshine. I just know we’d have the best walks there together.

And here’s the kicker: the breweries downtown are dog-friendly. I know how much you love a good craft beer, and now you don’t have to leave me behind to enjoy it. We can hang out together while you sip and I soak up the belly rubs from strangers. (Win-win, right?)

Honestly, from the moment I set paw downtown, I felt it — this place feels like home. Friendly faces, wide sidewalks, open green spaces and all the pup perks a dog could ask for. I just know we’d thrive here, together.

So… what do you say?

Let’s do it. Let’s chase this dream like I chase squirrels.

Let’s make Downtown Birmingham our new home.
